Scott’s practice focuses on a neurofunctional kinesiologic approach to bodywork. Neurofunctional kinesiology uses manual muscle testing to determine which muscles or structures of any kinetic chain within the musculoskeletal system are either over facilitated (firing too much) or inhibited (firing too little). When muscles or structures within the kinetic chain are not doing their part of supporting the musculoskeletal system, other muscles or structures will have to compensate to do more work to do the job of the muscles or the structures that have become inhibited. Inhibition can arise within the musculoskeletal system due to either being overworked, overstressed, past trauma, current trauma, acute pain, chronic pain, insufficient breathing mechanics, dysfunctional movement patterns or potentially all of the above. Identifying compensation patterns through manual muscle testing is key, but some compensation patterns may actually be secondary or tertiary compensations. The ultimate goal in Scott’s practice is to find the “prime driver” of these compensation patterns and to treat the prime driver alone to see if the secondary and tertiary compensations correct themselves thus allowing the central nervous system to correct itself.
