Following are descriptions of a few of the Special Events held at Stone Ridge Healing Arts
Ragas, Chants and Singing Bowls
Featuring: Steve Gorn, Ned Leavitt, Lynn Margileth, Joseph Jastrab, Amy McTear and - the audience.
A popular and recurring event, Ragas, Chants and Singing Bowls is a musical journey into beauty and bliss: crystal bowls, song, basuri flutes, chanting from a variety of world traditions including Hindu, Tibetan, and Native American.
Book Reading and Signing
with Anita Johnston, PhD, celebrated storyteller, clinical psychologist, and author of Eating in the Light of the Moon, who has been treating eating disorders for more than 25 years. She is director and cofounder of the Anorexia & Bulimia Center of Hawaii, and clinical director and founder of 'Ai Pono eating Disorders in Honolulu.
Only Breath Poetry Concert
Kim Rosen / spoken poetry; Jami Sieber / electric cello / vocals; and guest Steve Gorn / bamboo flute / clarinet
A revolutionary meeting between poetry and music that joins poems from around the world with
music that moves from vibrant stillness to irresistable worldbeat rhythms.
Women's Voices, Women's Lives
In this evening devoted to women's memoirs, four extraordinary local
authors - representing dramatically diverse backgrounds and experiences -
read from autobiographical works.
The featured authors were:
Ione, reading from Pride of Family: Four Generations of American Women of Color.
Johanna Reiss, reading from A Hidden Life
Susan Richards, reading from Chosen By a Horse.
and Gail Straub, reading from Returning to My Mother's House: Taking Back the Wisdom of the Feminine.
Local artist Maureen Cummins designed this performance piece and she introduced the evening. All four authors signed books after the event.
